For a while now, this has been one of those hidden gem venues for those of a more “independent” taste in grass-roots music.
However, the other day, while taking a socially responsible stroll along the sea-front at Tynemouth, couldn’t help but notice that the Surf Café was not only closed but it’s front and that of the gallery next door were heavily boarded up. Either suffered some damage or else there’s major renovations afoot. They’re still booking bands into next year so doesn’t look like a permanent closure nor no word of change of address, so fingers crossed.

Update:-
Well, the work on the new frontage of the Surf café has been completed, so the “cosy” little venue is back in business. Not much changed inside; they didn’t as I’d anticipated, knock through into the gallery next door.
