Burton Agnes Hall
East Yorkshire
YO25 4NB

Main Stage Line Up

13th July Friday Evening

6.30 - 8.00pm TipToe
Offering a luxuriously soulful and intimate sound, Tiptoe lend a mix of fun and sophistication and varied set list of traditional jazz numbers mixed in with more modern soul and RNB songs means there will be something toe-tappingly familiar for festivalgoers to enjoy.
8.30 - 10.00pm Electrio
Award-winning Space-Funk Trio from the UK, taking the classic sound of 70’s instrumental Jazz-Funk-Fusion into the future!

Late Night Sessions - In association with STRADA music agency.

10.00pm-11.00pm Nick Rooke
The East Yorkshire based Nick Rooke plays original music that crosses many genres. It is however the blend of Nick’s own songs and hints of traditional Irish Folk that results in a truly interactive experience for the audience. Great songs, reflecting the world around him mix with Nicks’ carefree attitude and sense of humour for a night to remember.

11.00pm-midnight TBC

14th July Saturday Afternoon

12.30-2.00pm Matt and Carlos
Jazz guitarist duo of Bolivian Carlos Olmos and Londoner Matt Smith, performing a mix of soul, funk and jazz and blues.

2.30 - 4.00pm Zoe Gilby
Zoë Gilby is a vocalist and songwriter offering compelling and original compositions. Her stockpile of music reaches a wide range of more contemporary material from composers such as Pink Floyd to Kate Bush, with influences from Sheila Jordan and Joni Mitchell.

4.30 - 6.00pm Ubunye
Ubunye (‘one-ness’) unites singers hailing from Kwa Zulu Natal in South Africa (now Huddersfield-based) with gospel and R’n’B players from Yorkshire, in an inspirational blend of jazz, Isigqi - traditional Zulu music - and Afro-pop.

14th July Saturday Evening
6.30 - 8.00pm Jo Harrop
The wonderful Jo Harrop will play tribute to the sultry songstress and ‘regal’ Peggy Lee and kick off the Saturday evening line up. Harrop will deliver moving renditions of Peggy Lee classics as well as swinging out on other great songs from the Lee canon.
The Durham born jazz singer has a voice that is warm, intimate & sincere. She is no stranger to performing at the best clubs and radio stations garnering praise notably from luminary composer Howard Blake OBE, & jazz pioneer Courtney Pine CBE.

8.30 - 10.00pm Billy Branch
Grammy nominee and Emmy Award winner Billy Branch, presented by the Giles Robson Band, will bring Saturdays performances to an explosive end!
Supporting Billy is international blues harpist, Giles Robson and his band. Billy, Giles and the band are on fire and invite festivalgoers to be part of their exciting journey as they bring the pure blues out of the shadows and rock the Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival!

Late Night Sessions - In association with STRADA music agency

10.00pm-11.00pm Polly Bolton and Bella Gaffney
Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Award winner Bella Gaffney hails from Bradford. She writes folk inspired songs which she performs along with her own original arrangements of traditional pieces. Bella has supported various folk luminaries including Jon Boden, Cara Dillon and Altan, and also performs with Midlands-based band Bric-a-Brac. Her second album, Heaven Knows, was released in 2017.

York-based Polly Bolton first picked up the mandolin as a child and has been touring internationally in various line ups since her early teens. Her support slots include Tcha Limberger and Mozes Rosenberg, Lau, and Hot Club of Cowtown. Endorsed by Eastman Guitars (their only UK-based mandolin player), she is also one third of progressive bluegrass / acoustic trio Stillhouse.
Polly and Bella first jammed backstage after a show in York in the autumn of 2017, and the project grew from there. A great musical friendship, they work collaboratively, arranging material led by powerful vocals and glittering instrumental collaboration.

11.00pm-midnight The Alligators
Festival favourites return to entertain revellers into the night!

15th July Sunday Afternoon

11.20am – 12.30pm Skeltr
An electrifying new duo in which Sam Healey’s roaring sax lines soar above Craig Hanson’s drum patterns, electronic soundscapes and samples, manipulated live in the moment: a striking, expansive sound with a buzzing energy at its core

1.00 - 2.30pm Kyla Brox with Danny Blomeley
Kyla’s voice remains a stunning example of the soul singer’s art: turning up the heat by degrees, lulling and charming before unleashing emotional catharsis, and blurring the distinction between pleasure and pain like the soul greats of old. Harnessing undiluted soul power in a duo with musical and life partner Danny Blomeley, Kyla Brox is without doubt the most authentic UK blues and soul singer of her generation.

3.00-4.30pm Atlantic Crossover
Atlantic Crossover is the renewed version and second wave of a ‘Tribute to Atlantic Jazz’ who after over 6 years of being apart have revived the project and are now taking the original idea and concept to deeper depths. Still retaining its appealing soulful driving front line power combined with a dynamic and exciting rhythm section, expect to be taken on a journey further into the Atlantic Sound.

5.00 - 6.00pm Ben Beattie’s after midnight band plus Simon Cunliffe-Lister
Saxophonist and pianist Ben Beattie’s compositions bring together an intriguing mix of atmospheric jazz, blue grooves and soulful ballads. Festival organiser and saxophonist Simon Cunliffe-Lister joins Ben to play out the weekend.

20th Big Wheel Blues Festival 2018Isle of Man

This is truly a year to celebrate the Big Wheel Blues Festival as it will be the 20th consecutive annual blues event: quite an achievement we think. We are returning to the Villa Marina over Friday 13th and Saturday 14th of July, hoping for some warmer weather. There will be two ticketed concerts in the Promenade Suite, doors open from 7.30pm, each night featuring three excellent acts covering, as always, a wide range of styles.

In addition on the Saturday afternoon there will be a free outdoor stage in the Villa Marina gardens, showcasing some of the cream of local talent. If by any chance the weather is unkind the stage will transfer indoors to the Colonnade Suite.

Do come along and support the festival and help us mark this anniversary.

Huge thanks are in order to sponsor James Osborne Financial Services and Isle of Man Arts Council.

Friday night opens with local band Loose Crew, a 5 piece good time band playing swing jump and boogie from the 1920s onwards, right up to more modern soulful blues classics. Next we have a very welcome return for acoustic roots and Americana masters Rob Heron and the Teapad Orchestra, great crowd pleasers. Headlining the night will be the Laurence Jones band, a real must-see for lovers of stellar guitar playing, Laurence being one of the very few top British exponents.

Saturday night opens with New Orleans style piano maestro Dale Storr, arguably the foremost British artist of his genre, followed by the Elles Bailey Band, rootsy blues country and soulful rock crossover. Summed up by BBC 6Music simply as ‘the most incredible voice’. Bringing the festival to a climax will be the Marcus Malone Band, Marcus being hailed as Detroit’s finest rock/blues export, a supreme vocal stylist.

Last year’s 5th anniversary festival was our most successful one to date with great feedback from the performing musicians and above all from you the festival fans. We have received great reviews from all including the music press, commenting on the quality of the acts and the friendly and welcoming nature of all those involved and long may it continue.

This year’s festival is no exception bringing you quality and variety throughout starting with our headline acts THE AYNSLEY LISTER BAND, CATFISH and THE HEIDI BURSON BAND. We have international acts from Italy and the USA, we have both young and old performers including Marcus Praestguard-Stevens ( Crossfire ) who has just turned 14 and Dick Middleton ( The Vincents ) who played with Gene Vincent and Johnny Hallyday and who is much older than 14 !! and we also have local musicians including Nigel Bagge and Beth Ellwood taking part.

We look forward to welcoming you all at the end of July.

The 48th Guiting Music Festival

20 July to 29 July 2018
For nearly half a century the Guiting Music Festival has been a delightful niche festival to enliven the Cotswolds’ summer calendar, bringing an exciting variety of highly talented performances of Classical, Jazz and Blues music by artists from around the world. In that time it has built up a strong band of very loyal supporters.

The festival is held in the beautiful and unspoilt Cotswold setting of Guiting Power, near Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire’s Cotswold Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The Guiting Music Festival is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers, with tremendous support coming from our loyal band of long-standing Sponsors, Donors and Patrons. We always strive to keep ticket prices as low as possible.

This is one I wished I was going too, stage time are a bit of a secret, as this is a free fest, it’s only far you buy a 5 quid programme (or the £3.50 download)
Two worthy mentions, I can tell you that Rebecca Downes is headlining the Friday night (10 pm) , with a new line up, New girl Tara Simms is taking over lead guitar duties while Steve Birkett does family wedding duties.  And, The Mentulls have a temp lead singer in the shape of John P Taylor. John is a great band leader and producer in his own right, a good catch by the Pipes (Mentulls family)

Upwards of 20,000 music lovers are expected in Colne, Lancashire this summer for The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival 2018.

The festival takes place in numerous town centre venues (from 750 to 50 capacity), Colne and Nelson Rugby Club (which also doubles-up as the festival campsite), plus many more restaurants and bars (also known as the festival ‘Roadhouse Venues’).

This beautiful town is an ideal location for an event of this kind, with one long ‘main’ street (closed to traffic) which hosts on-street entertainment, busking, pop-up DJs, incredible food stalls, a festival market, a kids fun fair, real ale bars and more.

Each music venue is within easy reach of the main street, making this event not only Europe’s best contemporary blues festival, but also one-of- a-kind and much-loved festival for people of the local area.

Headliners this year include King King (winners of both Band of the Year and Album of the Year at the recent UK Blues Awards), My Baby, Laurence Jones, Kyla Brox, Simon McBride and Connie Lush.

New Stage for 2018

The Great British Rhythm & Blues festival are thrilled to announce their new stage for 2018.

The Mini Muni is an intimate 100 capacity Alternative Stage (situated on the lower ground floor of the Muni), where festival goers can expect to catch some of the most exciting, boundary-pushing blues artists on the current scene.

As Jason Elliot, Artistic Director explains, “Many of the artists playing the Mini Muni Alternative Stage are quite young; we’re hoping to help encourage the blues to be handed down from one generation to the next. It’s important that blues music isn’t ‘frozen in time’, and it’s vital to keep pushing the boundaries of the genre forwards. As long as the music connects with the soul and the musical framework has those key blues notes in it, then the evolution of the blues continues. We hope to have improvised and experimented with the genre, with an aim of bringing the most exciting and left-field acts to this years festival”.

The Mini Muni stage is open to all #festival wristband holders and is in addition to the musical offerings at the Little Theatre, the Muni & the Hippodrome.

There is a songwriting workshop (open to musicians and non-musicians alike) in this space too, which is free to wristband holders. Further information to follow.

Artists playing the stage over the course of the weekend include:
Mad Jack and The Hatters
Blues Boy Kings
The Mojo Preachers
King Size Slim
Richard Townend (+ songwriting workshop)
The Devil’s Jukebox
Calum Ingram
The Washboard Resonators
and more.

Edinburgh Blues & Rock festival 2018

22nd September - 2pm - 11pm   Edinburgh Corn Exchange

Ten Years After

Back together by popular demand on their 50th anniversary and touring behind a new album released last summer. Their now legendary encore, I’m Going Home performed at Woodstock in ‘69 was captured on film and exposed their jazz, blues, rock amalgam to a large audience who were blown away by the intensity of the band’s performance when the Academy Award winning documentary was released. The word legend is often overused, with these guys it’s and undeniable status.

Dana Fuchs

Dana Fuchs is a phenomenon, a singer whose mesmerising voice and presence has led critics to compare her to rock legends from Janis to Jagger. Perhaps Stereophile Magazine said it best, ‘Imagine a sultry, more emotive Janis Joplin, backed by a higher energy version of the late 60’s Rolling Stones….Rock n’ Roll doesn’t get any better.’

The Rising Souls

A dynamic soulful rock band, their music is a punchy and intoxicating amalgamation of rock and soul. Think meaty riffs. Think intricate grooves. Think soaring vocals. Think if Led Zepplin had a love affair with Aretha Franklin.  After touring the festival circuit hard in both the UK and Europe, ‘The Rising Souls’ make a triumphant hometown return in 1 of only 2 Scottish shows this year.

Mitch Laddie

Marked for greatness at an early age by blues behemoth Walter Trout, ‘Mitch Laddie’ has been honing his virtuoso guitar playing on the big stage since being signed to Provogue Records at 17. He brings his acclaimed band and searing yet infectious groove to Edinburgh as part of his Autumn UK tour.

The Jenson Interceptors

‘The Jenson Interceptors’ are one of the most authentic and exciting blues bands to hit the scene in recent years. Playing a classic blues style and fronted by harmonica ace Gary Martin, the band tear through a mix of interpretations of songs by the likes of Slim Harpo/Little Walter/T-Bone Walker and Muddy Waters as well as original material.

Charlotte Marshall and the 45s

Hot of the press, this sizzling seven-piece groove band brings in a distinctive flavour of retro to the roots scene. In an explosion of modern sound delivered both musically and lyrically with flair and sardonic wit, Charlotte Marshall and the 45’s are set to make an indelible mark on the blues and roots scene and thier scorching live shows leaves a dedicated following begging for more.

The Edinburgh Blues ‘N’ Rock Festival is an unmissable slice of blues and rock action. Don’t miss your opportunity to see this collection of stellar acts in one of the festival city’s highlight events.

Tickets are available now and can be purchased at Tickets Scotland on Rose Street, Edinburgh.
