Well, it’s almost time for the 4 artists to be selected for the 4th UK Blues Challenge, the winner of which will go on to represent the UK in the European and International Blues Challenges in Norway & Memphis in 2018.
This year though, there’s a slight twist. As usual, a panel of 250 representatives from across the UK Blues spectrum are invited to nominate 3 artists they think would be best suited for the task. From these nominations, the 4 artists/band with the most points will be invited to battle it out at the Blues Challenge on September 10th - this year at the iconic Cavern Club, Liverpool.
And here’s the twist, at the challenge will be a 5th artist who’s selection will be made outside the panel; a “ringer” if you like, to be announced shortly.
Speaking for The Cavern Club, Director of Music & Events Jon Keats said: “We are delighted to be hosting this year’s UKBlues Challenge here at the Cavern Club. Whilst people will always associate the venue with The Beatles and Merseybeat era, blues has also played a huge part in our history. Many blues giants have played here including the likes of Big Bill Broonzy, John Lee Hooker, Alexis Korner, Eric Clapton, Sonny Boy Williamson, Bo Diddley…This is our 60th Anniversary year and it’s great to welcome the blues back to the Cavern!”
Details & the bands to follow, when announced.
I wonder if T2 will be as big a disappointment as the original Trainspotting was to the railway enthusiast.
