Where would we be without them….?  Even the biggest have to start somewhere…...

It’s Independent Venue Week 2017 – time to get out to a gig. All week (23-29 January) venues across the UK are staging gigs and shows to celebrate the independent spirit that underpins our music scene. From tiny rooms to big halls, the seven days of gigs salutes and showcases the curation, support and different thinking independent venues contribute to UK music at all levels.

To find our exactly why these venues matter you can tune into Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music at 4pm (Monday-Friday) as he’s touring the country and broadcasting live from a selection of independent venues all week.

Of better still you can go to gig and see it for yourself. For the latest news follow Independent Venue week on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram – plus share your own thoughts, pictures and posts from the week using the #IVW17 hastag – but below is a round-up of the Independent Venue Week shows that are taking place today.
