I haven’t dated the title to make it an ongoing thread as the gaffer is already booked to play next year!
This year however was absolutely fantastic. The venue was The Spa, literally, at the waters edge. It was one of those weird high tides on saturday afternoon, where if you were lucky you got your car washed, or if you were unlucky, (and they were dozens pushing their luck,) washed out to sea!
There were two Stages, as is the norm these days, first up on the acoustic was one of my/our favourites Lucy Zirins, lucy was lucy with a handful of new songs chucked in with the old. Watch out for her new band this year.
Lucy Zirins was followed by Blue Swamp Duo, Class! Lucy Zirins then did a few more songs then Kyla Brox took over the main stage. A young man to watch for, especially if you have a ticket for Jo Harman at Sedgefield! (say no more) is Benjamin Bassford and the evening was topped off with the Jon Amor Band with Bennet Holland on keys, a real stonking way to finish off day one!

Day Two afternoon highlights, were Leila dee trio, Guy Tortora (before he had to dash off to play Redcar) and Wille and the Bandits, who are still on the up going by the merch they sold! Highlight of the acoustic stage and probably surprise of the day was Steve Pablo Jones. Anybody who has ever been to a festiva in britain will have seen Pablos art stall, so yes Pablo is a singer songwriter too and a very good one too, hope he does more music as well as his art!
The Evening started off with Burger and chips, sorry, David Migden and The Twisted Roots, then the unmissable Jo Harman and topped off with Pat McManus

Sunday, acoustic lounge provided another surprise star for me, I had heard he was good, but Tony Devenport surpassed all expectations, lots of stuff still in the locker I believe! Goldie Reed was another pleasant surprise, about two thirds the size of Jo Harman but all the voice! Local boy TC and the Money makers set the stage for the Grand Finale. My total favourites for the whole weekend were La Vendore Rogue, brought the old Hokie Joint Goosebumps out big style, and I still had the Jar family and of Course, a Scarborough Blues fest wouldn’t be complete without Ian Seigal, once he told the camera men what to do with their flash he was of course superb. His amp blew with one song left but crew sorted another one out in minutes and we got the song and an encore. That little lot, plus a few I’ve missed out cost me £70 plus £45 B&B for two nights! get your tickets booked for the gaffer next year.

Once again, it looks like being a brilliant week-end for Scarborough’s Top Secret Blues Festival. The music is a given, but the weather - well, it’s a little known fact that when not in Asgard, Odin keeps a caravan at Jacob’s Mount.

Have a brilliant time, all who’s going - and bring me back some rock!!!
