I don’t know why it is, “crossroads” have a great significance in Blues mythology; so why can’t I find a Blues venue at one?

Nearest I’ve come so far is The Cleveland Bay in Eaglescliffe; home of “Blues At The Bay”, and this is set in the fork of a “Y” shaped junction. This pub seems to bounce on Friday nights; or certainly did this Friday when lewis Hamilton let go.

Get the “cons” out the road, the venue has limited car-parking and being on a busy junction, off-street parking takes a little finding, but it sited in a good area, The concert room isn’t large; “intimate” would be polite, but well handled. seating is limited, so get in early for the bands. There’s no stage riser, so if you’re down the front on a busy night, you could find yourself part of the band.

That said, friendly staff and a regular crowd who enjoy their music and appreciate having bands play there; really good atmosphere. Seems to cater for mainly “local” bands, but out-of-towners are more than welcome.

Agree, great music on your doorstep. They were half a dozen gigs I could have gone too last night but chose The Bay. It is very ‘intimate’ as the poster behind the band tells us, but when a band gets it right, such as the Robin Robindon band last night, it doesn’t get better. Ill bet it’s not another four yrs beforecwe see them again. You couldn’t get a fag paper between the audience, and the late comers tend to be wedged into the doorway and adjoining corridors. And the roar of appreciation at the end was the loudest I’ve heard in there for a long time. The month late update was due to the internet gremlins. Still one or two in the system but at least he has this years gigs on now.
