See already that the 2012 Blues Festivals are starting to be announced. No doubt many are off to Butlins at Skegness in January. However, if like me, you prefer to wait until it warms up a bit, I’ll recommend the May Day Bank Holiday week-end at Guisborough. Looks like Kath is doing us proud:-

Blues Festival 2012
Saturday Evening May 5th

Chantel McGregor Band

John Attah

Sunday May 6th

Hamilton Loomis

The Producers

The Big Boss Men

Connie Lush Band

Chantel McGregor Acoustic

Dr Brown & The Groovecats

That’s one holiday week-end taken care of….

Add to this thread if you know of any more coming up.

There’s stirring afoot down in Hebdon Bridge for their Blues Festival in May. Last year’s was a multi-venue 3 day affair, which I think has been trimmed down a little for this year, but the confirmed line-up so far is lean and mean:-
The Todd Sharpville Band, Cherry Lee Mewis, Marcus Bonfanti & Paddy Milner, Ben Poole, Mitch Laddie, Tom Attah, Rabbit Foot, Hooson, Bare Bones Boogie Band, The Revelators, Crosscut Saw, Idle Hands, Something Blue, Texas Rose, Lucy Zirins, Babajack, Angelo Palladino, Diamond Dac, Dave Arcari, Poplar Jake, Fran McGillivray, George Lindsay Blues, Lewis Hamilton and the Boogie Brothers, Russ Tippins, Binsness Bluesboys, Rhythm Zoo, Bonnie Mac Blues Band, Fuschi4…

More deatils to follow on this one…..

And here’s a third big Blues Fest; this time featuring Aynsley, and it looks like he’s going for a paddle - and if he does then he’s a braver man than me; Scarborough, even in late March isn’t quite Miami.

Scarborough’s a sprawling 6 night event between Tues 27th March and Sunday 1st April. Up to 30 bands on altogether, between 9 performances; details still coming in, but what there is so far, looks pretty good. Individual prices per night, but there’s a 3 day ticket for Fri/Sat/Sun £40.

Tues 27th March - Watermelon Slim  (£12)

Wed 28th March - Al Morrison Blues Experience  (£6)

Thurs 29th March - Scarborough Blues Revue (£8)

Fri 30th March - Aynsley Lister   (£15)
                TC & The Moneymakers

Sat 31st March - Kyla Brox (£15)
                Jon Amor Blues Group

Sun 1st April - Babajack  (£15)
                Ian Siegal Band

That’s the story so far…...

That was kinda my thinking too. Saw Kath approach The Producers at the Darlington Fest in September, glad she’s persuaded them to come up; for me they were the “hit” of that particular week-end and a hot-tip from Jimmy.

Would like to try and throw this thread open for the whole country, so if you hear of any good festivals or any word on the big ones like Maryport, Colne, Newark etc bang them on.

If that gig ever came off, I hope you’d save some elbow room down the front, especially for Icon and his camera…

Short of that, just seen that Hamilton has a 2hr DVD out, Live At The Hub, available on his site, $20 + p&p.

I’m more and more curious to see Hamilton Loomis.
But I’m afraid that I’ll miss some very good bands when Ryan McGarvey will be on tour from end of April until beginning of June. And Hamilton Loomis could be one of the bands.

Here’s a link to Hamilton’s tour schedule (Germany, Netherlands, UK, Denmark, Belgium)

Thanks for that link - had a look the other day and seems its been updated since then. I’m down for the Guisborough Blues Festival date, but I noticed that Thornhill is mentioned and once again clashing with Guisborough.

I didn’t know Thornhill was happening again, last I heard they were doing a fund-raiser back around October. Good news if it is going ahead, but does anyone know anything definite? Shame Greenose no longer posts.

Just an update on the Hamilton Loomis DVD, its available only in NTSC format at the moment, but, a EU/UK PAL format will be available in a month or so.

Talking to a Thornhill resident (yes, there are some!) yesterday, the outlook was gloomy. But maybe Hamilton knows something that he doesn’t.

Happy New Year Guys!
Re Thornhill, Jimmy is right, it does appear gloomy as they did have Hamilton Loomis booked under the end of January with no cancellation fee, it looks like they have decided not to keep the booking as Hamilton is now due to appear at Burnley on that day. See the tour schedule link above again for the change. The problem with Thornhill was that they were too reliant to outside funding to make it viable. They had lots of funding last year, however a large proportion of that was paying the free bands in the pubs which did not generate any income. I hope they are able to have a festival on a smaller basis with some local names and maybe a couple of bands from further afield but we shall see.

I will make sure I see Hamiton Loomis the night before when he plays Darvel (with Mud Mississippi), as I’ve not seen him yet.

Speaking of Burnley they are back to a three day event this year, renamed the Burnley Blues & Rock Festival, in addition to Hamilton Loomis, the Lancashire Telegraph states:

“Early signings for the festival include new generation bands Albany Down and Virgil and the Accelerators, as organisers seek to attract the town’s new university students to the proceedings.”

More details here: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/burnleypendlerossendale/9429211.Burnley_Blues_Festival_bosses_confirm_2012_three_day_spectacular/
