Thanks Jimmy

Not sure if the links changed.

I’m quite liking this tune… not bad and that gig at Putney was good too.

Excellent video (as usual from Denimac), linked by Aynsley on Facebook.

Hi,

Newly joined. Does anyone have any input into a tab for this song. I’m a novice at this (has taken me a couple of months to tab the first minute or so of Larry Miller’s “Cruel Old World”).
Firstly does anyone know what key is it in? - I noticed from the video that Aynsley spends a bit of time tuning his guitar at the beginning - is he just standard re-tuning or changing to another tuning? The first few measures appear to be around the 10 fret on the lower strings (E,A,D).

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi again,

Just to answer my own question - just been playing along to it - and Bbmin key and scale appears to fit OK and
the opening bar appears to be:
e——————————-    and the opening bars appear to be based around the G and D
B———————————  strings. So that’s a start. Of course I could be completely wrong.
G——11—10———11
D———————-11—-
A———————————-
E———————————-

Hi Micromet, and welcome aboard the Forum. Great to see someone who plays a bit chipping in. Sorry I can’t be of any help on your question, maybe one of the others who look in can help out, or if you’re lucky, maybe “the Captain” will look by, as he does occasionally.

Have a good look round, and feel free to chip in anywhere you like - fresh input is very welcome.

Mike

PS - is this any good for you:-

Hi mcraggs27,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Had a look at that site you posted - very interesting - never seen this one before. Anyway, noted all the chords used and the only scale I can find which uses those chords is the Eb Minor (Aeolian) Scale (Eb F Gb Ab Bb B Db) - the song uses all these Bb and F but also includes Abmaj. Don’t know enough about music theory yet to know whether I am on the right track. But played through the song again - just picking notes in this scale as the track played along - didn’t seem to hit any discordant notes - so it seems as if Eb Minor could be the scale Aynsley used. So I will continue with this.

So joining the forum has already paid huge dividends - thanks again for your input

Hi Colin,

Glad to be of some help. Half of what you said went whistling over my head: hang round the neck, stringy side to the front, is about all I know about actual guitar playing - I leave the magic to guys like Aynsley.

You ever been to one of his guitar tutorial/workshop week-ends, such as running this week-end? (Denham, Uxbridge) They’re an annual event, open to all levels of ability, and very popular. That sounds like a blatant “plug”, sorry, but if you’re interested, check the links and start saving now (usually announced in October and booked solid by December).

Hi Mike,

Love to go - but I’m 66, started playing a couple of years after I retired in 2007. Just a bedroom guitarist and guitar/effects maker. No desire to play in public - so a place on Aynsley’s fully subscribed workshops, while being highly beneficial to me - would prevent someone who wants to improve and play gigs from experiencing the workshop. However, I am plucking up courage to book a local teacher on a monthly basis - to rid me of many bad habits I’m bound to have picked up.

So long as you are enjoying yourself, that’s the main thing. Aynsley has some tutorial clips on YouTube, I don’t know if you’ve checked them out. And he also does tutorials via Skype, I’m sure I saw a link somewhere.
