I notice that Aynsley’s label mate Darrin has a new album coming out soon and a tour, including a date in Edinburgh (Aynsley take note). I’ve been listening to some of his tunes on myspace and lastfm. He sounds pretty good, kind of folky rock. He was mentioned in passing on the Leicester Blues festival posts. Can anyone tell me more about him and if they’d recommend seeing him live. Cheers

I would recommed seeing Derrin live! I’ve seen him a twice now but keep looking for anymore northern(ish) gigs!! First time was a couple of years ago in Bury and then again with Jeff Jang at Maryport festival in July. I think he was mentioned in the post about Leicester because he was supposed to be there but had cancelled at the last minute.

Derrin Nauendorf is FANTASTIC, go and see him immediately you have the chance.  He has an amazing voice which makes even a hardened non-love-song-liking person like myself just simply melt and even though I’ve seen him do it dozens of times I still don’t believe he gets that many voices out of one guitar all at the same time.  I hear that he’s in the mould of Tommy Emmanuel whose greatness I have yet to witness.  I highly recommend you go to YouTube right now, if you haven’t already, and check out the fabulous recording of ‘Let It Go’.  Derrin is known in our house as ‘mad acoustic guy’ - and for good reason.  I am still cursing myself for missing him at The Sage with the equally awesome Andy McKee last year and my 18 year old death metal loving son won’t let me forget it either.  And when you go - when he asks for requests, I dare you to shout ‘Kiss’ grin

Looked at the video Brit mentioned and liked Derrin, but the real gems in her post are the mentions of Andy McKee and Tommy Emmanuel. I had never heard of either of those guys and I don’t normally listen to that kind of music, but there’s no doubt both are extremely accomplished guitar players. Thanks for the tip!
