Pilgrimage: Mississippi to Memphis is the album Aynsley Lister recorded with Erja Lyytinen and Ian Parker in America.

I was considering getting it sometime, can anyone tell me what it is like and if they enjoy it?

If it sounds like Aynsley then I’m interested, not too keen on Ian Parker though, he’s a little too smooth for my tastes. Talented guy but not my cup of tea.

Actually one Ian Parker song I like is called “It hurts a man” from his live album - slow blues tune.

I much prefer Ian Siegal and would love to see he and Aynsley work together more.

Here is one of funkyrockchicks’ videos that shows the two of them together:

Hope you don’t mind me posting that one! I’ve not seen Ian yet but love his recorded work, he sounds closest to the Chicago Blues scene, yet it does not sound dated to the great presentation and lyrics.

I have his lastest (third) album Swagger, its excellent and was voted the best blues album 2007 by readers of Blues Matters. Matt Schofield plays lead guitar on some of it.

I think it was a one off. They are both playing Carlisle blues festival so hoping they play together then…

Forgot to have my bit on Ian Parker.

Im a big fan , and I would say that he is getting close to be one of my all time favourites.I went to see him before I had even heard any of his material because he was playing local to me.Also , the week before I heard his name on the Paul Jones show.I have to say that night I was blown away , he was a real star with energy & passion with such a talent for song writing .It went down as one of my best Gigs for 2007 & I thought about the Gig for days after.Needless to say I bought his latest album that night and when I listened to it the next day it didnt deliver to expectation’s ‘or’ should I say I didnt complement the night before. His guitar sound on the album (mostly a Telecaster) is a little weak and real clean where as ‘live’ he mainly plays a strat with a 25db Boost (sorry don’t mean to be a anorak on guitars) which really kicks arse. Also ‘live’ the band really bounce of each other and when it comes to the solo’s they realy push him along.

I do understand if some people are not in favour of the album , but I have to say I dont think it shows the man in his best light.

I urge anyone if you get the chance to see him live then take it.Or I would say visit his web site review the tour dates and make a point to see him before the end of 2008 , Im sure you wont regret it...........his the man!!!!!

Some bands are better live - Ian Parker is playing at The Half Moon, in Herne Hill, South London on 1st November 2008, so I’ll try and get along to that one - check out http://www.feenstra.co.uk for some other great gigs in South London..............

I listened to some of Ian Parker’s music but just couldn’t get into it - his music was too mellow imo. Are his live shows more Rockin’ or energized?
Did listen to two albums of Ian Siegal and was very impressed. The album Meat and Potatoes was the one I really liked. Great guitarist with a unique voice that reminds one of Howlin’ Wolf.

Yes that’s more like it, that was the song I liked. Glad to hear a positive view of Mr Parker. I would check him out if he was playing near by. I think I’d always prefer Aynsley (more rocky) or Ian Siegal (more bluesy), but there is no doubt that he is a talented performer.

No gigs near me, but Britbabe will be pleased, as he’s due to play her old haunt in Sunderland on 2nd December!
