On Saturday I went to check out the W T Feaster band, from Indiana USA, after discovering they were playing in Blaydon.  I was surprised at the turnout before I even got in the venue, obviously they’ve garnered many fans in their couple of weeks playing up here and after hearing them, it’s easy to see why.  I really enjoyed the gig, despite the 3 Hendrix covers lol grin .  Although the material wasn’t particularly challenging and fit nicely within the snug blues formula that most blues club regulars seem to prefer, there’s a huge charm about the band and they aren’t flashy in any way, they let their skill and the music speak for themselves.  Travis Feaster is an excellent guitarist who, like our Aynsley, knows the value of restraint and he has a great voice which reminds me strongly of my much-beloved Anthony Gomes and indeed quite a bit of their material had that same funky edge that I like so much about him.  There was, as should be the case in my opinion, a great deal more guitar in the live performance than there is on the album, which as my friend Indy pointed out does have a flavour of Los Lonely Boys about it.  I didn’t hear that so much at the gig, seeing them live brought Indigenous more to mind.  I wish I’d had the chance to see a couple more of their gigs while they were here.

The only sour note of the evening was that unfortunately the people who had had the foresight to bring them over to England to play got entirely carried away by their enthusiasm and totally took over the place, and they really ticked me off by constantly taking flash photos into the crowd which ended up giving me a severe headache as I was near the front and standing, where most were sitting.  I mean, how many shots of a hundred people in a small dark room does anyone need?  I give them huge kudos for getting the band over here but they really need to display better manners towards the venues and promoters who provide them than that or they run the risk of not being re-booked.

Britbabe—I’ve had time for more listens to the band and agree with your observations. I’m definitely gonna see them if they play near where I live. WT Feaster is a very promising band indeed and I won’t mind the Hendrix songs.

I had a listen to their songs on myspae. They sound pretty good. I’ll need to take notice when they return to the UK. Hopefully won’t be too long after the reception it appears they got.

I had the benefit of seeing this band several times when they were over here, and thought they were absolutely awesome!
As for their last performance in Blaydon, I’ve never had a better night.  Loved every single minute of it - Hendrix and all - and some of their own material is awe inspiring.  In particular a track called Walk On. Brilliant, the guitar playing on this takes my breath away.
Whenever they come back, wherever they are, I’ll go to see them.  I travelled 120 miles to see them at Blaydon and wouldn’t have missed it.
I happen to know the promotors who brought this band over from the USA did this for absolutely nothing but the love of the music - you are right to give them kudos for it.  I also know they put a lot of work in to promote the Blaydon gig, - its the first time I’ve been there, but if I were responsible for running it I would have been well pleased with the turnout and the quality of this band which can only enhance the club’s reputation. Credit to the venue for agreeing to put them on, and credit to the small team who worked to make the whole tour a success.
Look forward to seeing them next year!

I got my copy of Long Overdue by the W T Feaster band in the post the other day. It is really good and I’m going to enjoy listening to it over the next few weeks. Slightly annoyed though that I missed the band when they were here as they played a gig near me. Here is a link to one of their songs called Walk On, which is a highlight on the album.

The lady that sold me the album loaded this video herself, so if you want a copy of the album, you could contact her through youtube. Enjoy! smile
