As a newbie here, just wanted to say Hi. So, Stockton ARC was Aynsley’s 1st time there - mine too. In fact, 1st time I’ve seen Aynsley & band live and have to say, will not be the last!!! As 99% of folk on here will already know, “Purple Rain” was awesome and we got “Hush” out of you. I’m now looking forward to the new live album.
Good luck with the rest of the tour, and hope to see you again, very soon.

Welcome to the forum!!
Great to hear you enjoyed Aynsley live and sounds like we can add you to the growing list of admirers!!
Everyone loves Purple Rain, but interestingly, Aynsley has talked about dropping it…. red face

Hi - thanks for the welcome.
I’ve been in a run lately of bands big in the 70s so thought it was about time I saw someone a bit more contemporary. I picked up on Aynsley’s stuff via Classic Rock mag, and I got a couple of albums and the DVD so kind of knew what to expect, but it’s never as good as a live show. In a way, I can understand why as a songwriter Aynsley would drop the “Purple Rain” cover, but if it’s included on the announced new live CD, then there’s a record of it. I did enjoy the mix of Aynsley’s own newer and older material, it was a strong set, and I really liked some of the cheeky guitar licks he dropped in from time to time.
The backing band I though were really good, and they interplayed well and looked as if they were enjoying the show, so take this as no negative reflection, but if Aynsley plays the ARC or anywhere round the north east again, I hope there’s one of his solo shows as the intimate atmosphere would be something magic.

Nice posts Mcraggs, I’m glad you’ve found us, and more importantly Aynsley. His solo shows are few and far between, but meant to be excellent. I’ve not been to one either, but I have seen him play a couple of solo songs before a band set. Yes I think we are all expecting Purple Rain to be on the live CD! smile

In 2 weeks, I’ve seen Jethro Tull, Bad Company & yer man Aynsley. 3 different venues, 3 different acts, each equally as good. And I’ve just come off the O2 Academy Newcastle website after booking for Blondie. That would make for an interesting combination, Aynsley & Debbie.

I thought the solo shows would be a rarity, I know Steve Hogarth (h) from Marillion does similar (with just keyboard). For the audience, they’re rewarding & insightful, but for the performer it’s rewarding and draining.

Anyway, whatever the format, next time Aynsley’s in the general area I’m rounding up some friends and will be there.

Hello and welcome,

Nice gig list and good to hear that they were all good.
Bad Company is on my wishlist too. But even if they’d come to Germany I’m not sure whether I’d go. I don’t like concerts in huge stadiums. Too much people for my taste.
Did you buy a live cd from Bad Company after the concert? And if yes, which one and how is it? Good sound?

Wish you a good time here.

Hi BB & Ligho and thanks for the welcome.

BB - I’ve cast my vote on your poll. Not an easy pick as it’s an excellent album all round with different tracks working better on different days, depending on what mood I’m in. Goes without saying, I’m looking forward to the live album.

Ligho - The Bad Company gig was fantastic, that’s about as much as I can say. Some would grumble that the set and encores didn’t include any Free, but hey, it was Bad Co. we went to see. I didn’t buy any Cds, though a friend bought one from Birmingham NEC but I haven’t had a chance to hear it yet - I’ll let you know when I do. Newcastle Arena isn’t my favourite venue, nor is it liked by a number of bands judging by the ones who play there once and never again. However, if it wasn’t there Newcastle would be missed off tours by the larger bands. Newcastle City Hall is my 2nd home for concerts, but I do miss the old Mayfair which was pulled down about 10 years ago. It’s been succeeded by the Academy (O2 or Carling or whatever) but I can’t get used to that place.
Cheers
Mike
