I’ve never seen Coldplay in concert, but judging by the complexity of Viva La Vida, it would be difficult to capture that sound live. What do I know though (I’m sure many readers of this forum would agree with this statement lol!) having never seen them.

Good rounded music taste as the others said too Kate. We all have music for different moods. Its interesting you mention the JEEP album from the Stereophonics. I’ve always liked their music and first saw then in a small venue when they were starting out, but I’ve never liked that album. Performance and Cocktails is the one I like most.
As for Coldplay, I’d say they have fantastic sounding songs but its just really the kind of sound I want to listen to. Not sure if that makes sence to you reading this though! smile
Been listening to some modern soul music in James Hunter and Duffy and the Kings of Leon’s new album is pretty good too. Back to more familiar territory I’m listening to Danny Bryant’s Redeye Band, the albums Days Like This and Black & White. I’m considering seeing them just before Xmas.

Duncan - Am I seeing a differnt side here?  Regarding Neo-Soul - Have you listened to Maxwell, Remy Shand or Van Hunt? All three are quite good.

I’ve got several different sides! smile I like a little soul sometimes, not as much as rock or blues, but variety is all good. No interest in classical, hip hop, jazz or country & western as yet, but a little folk is not too bad either.

Speaking of which, Mr David Viner is catching my ear at the moment with his new album Amongst the rumours and the rye. He’s currently on a UK tour:

Thanks for your judgement of my music taste grin

I really like the Stereophonics, but you’re right, the “Perfomance and cocktails” one is even better than the one I’ve mentioned.

Yeah, Danny Bryant is worth seeing if you haven’t already - heavy Walter Trout influence, which ain’t bad

I picked up “Bluesbreakers” John Mayall with Eric Clapton today - a great album - if you want to see where modern day blues/rock players like Aynsley got their influence, get this cd. Some great pre Cream guitar from Clapton..........hard to believe this was recorded in 1966, the year we won the World Cup!!!!

Sean Chambers “Humble Spirits” - a cd released in 2005, full of riff laiden power trio blues/rockers - so if you like Hendrix, Trower, Bonamassa, KWS, Eric Gales, Stoney Curtis, Ryan McGarvey etc, you’ll probably love this..........

At the moment I’m once more obsessing over one track - ‘Black Magic Spell’ - from Jim Suhler and Monkeybeat’s album, ‘Shake’.  I’ve had it on repeat in the car for the past 4 days now.  This is sexy beyond belief, the finest slide guitar song I’ve heard in my life - so far.  Please feel free to throw down the gauntlet and introduce me to other great examples so I can judge for myself if I still think that’s the case!

You’re torturing me! Went to see if I could listen to this hyped recording and naturally it wasn’t available. I’ll try the Net to see what shakes out. I take any music you take the time to mention in this Forum quite seriously. And that goes for alot of our other serious posters too! Getting back to Jim Suhler - iTunes did have his album Dirt Road that I promptly snatched up. There’s a country flavor to the blues on this with a dash of modern Robert Johnson. All the songs are played at a high level. Lynne, have you heard this cd? I’d rate this album a solid A and strongly recommend checking it out.

Indeed I do have that album Indy and I love it, there’s one there which is just perfect driving music and I’d forgotten about it briefly, thanks for the reminder.  I take it you do know that Jim plays lead guitar for George Thorogood?  Jim’s such a nice guy and tho I like GT&D a lot I have to say I much prefer Monkeybeat.  I’ve got the other albums too but it’s always Shake that I play, mostly because of that song - I was over the moon when he did it for me the year he headlined Colne Festival, about 2 years back.  Made the night for me it did! Fret ye not Indy my friend, I’ll send you it soon in the hope it will help your recovery!

You’re right about driving music - Dirt Road is an easy flowing little gem. Sometimes I need to get away from the in-your-face shreds on guitar. Love the songs Dust Devil, Spanish Flandang (reminds me of Nancy Wilson on Elizabethtown) but really all of em are great. The stuff I found on his website was more electric and great as well but no Black Magic Spell could be found. Think Duncan would like this disc cause there’s some great harp being played.
Eldo - I listened to Scott Holt and bought some of his music. Agree with your assessment but I think his version of Damn Right I’ve Got the Blues may be better than Buddy’s version.

I got the Scott Holt album “Dark of the Night” today and remember we were having the discussion about using session musicians for Aynsley’s new album, well on this Scott Holt album, 3 tracks have Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Billy Cox (bass), the old Hendrix, Band of Gypsies guys and 4 of the other tracks have the SRV Double Trouble rhythm section of Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans - and Buddy Guy guests on one track - not bad eh????

Sadly Dark of the Night is not available on my usual source. The rhythm sections you mention might warrant a visit to Amazon. Thanks for the heads-up!
