Yep, I was there.
The cost depends on the level of accommodation, number of people sharing and food option taken (& number of beers drunk!), but it’s certainly not expensive, considering the number of bands playing over 3 nights & 2 days.
Unfortunately, I had to walk the length of the camp in a blizzard when I arrived. No more snow, but it was freezing for the rest of the weekend, even the beach kept some of its snow covering!
As mentioned already, JST was never going to be appearing. Apparently she had to ask several times before her name was finally taken off the bill advertised on the website. (similarly for Andy Fairweather Low). However, other artists, who weren’t advertised, did appear – Micky Moody, Maggie Bell, Mick Taylor etc.
JST was one of the reasons that I’d decided to go, together with Oli Brown & Stan Webb’s Chicken Shack, plus the chance to catch Jay Tamkin & Chantel McGregor who have been on my “to see” list for some time.
There were 2 main stages in the evenings, each attracting crowds of around 2000. They both followed similar time schedules, so it was impossible to see every act’s complete performance. Usually worked OK, but I did have to pass on the Blues Band for the sake of Micky Moody.
I already said on another thread, that Oli was my top of the weekend. Other personal highs were Stan Webb (a long time favourite) and Chantel (very impressive). Special mentions for Nine Below Zero (such a good live band) and an acoustic Maggie Bell & Dave Kelly.
Personal low, I’m afraid was the Mick Taylor Band, especially disappointing as I’d been unexpectedly impressed by them at a festival last May. This seemed more like the negative experience mentioned before by Lynne (I think).
All in all, I’d do it again.
