First album you ever bought

Single, Hey Girl Don’t Bother Me. The Tams
Album Focus at the Rainbow ( Id got some taste by then)
Gig ELO Fairfield Halls Croydon age 14
It now breaks my heart to remember that Queen were playing across the road at the Greyhound when Seven Seas of Rye had just broken.
Haha - I think I was at the Queen gig at the Greyhound - me and my school mates used to go there every week and I remember seeing Queen there when the first album was out…...first single was Honky Tonk Women - can’t remember first album or gig - probably someone at the Greyhound, Croydon
I was 15 before I really got into music, so I actually bought my first album before my first single:
First album: Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
First single: Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter To the Slaughter (big push to get to no 1, it worked)
First live concert: Metallica at the SECC Glasgow - Maiden must have been touring elsewhere at the time!
First single - Goodbye T’ Jane, Slade
First Album - Aladin Sane, David Bowie (This was the first I bought although I had several as presents before it, the first I can remember was Cream’s Disraeli gears, I think, which I hated with a passion, and now love!!)
First Gig - Dr Feelgood/Ian Dury on the “Naughty rythmns tour”
Incidentally, just after I saw Dr Feelgood, I saw Black Sabbath at the Colston Hall Bristol, and was pulled onto the stage by Ozzy for the encore “Children of the grave”, On the second verse, he offered me the mic as (I think) a joke, which I took and sang the rest of the song. There started my singing career!! I got all the original members autographs after and my memory of that was how much Bill Ward smelled of beer. They were all paraletic. I was 13 years old.
I never bought many singles cause my brother already had a ton. Mostly Beatles songs. I do remember buying Kenny Rogers and The First Edition’s song “Just Dropped In” and Sly and the Family Stone’s “Dance to the Music” on the same day as a young lad.
First album bought with my own money was The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night.
First concert was Jefferson Airplane in Washington D.C. This was after I passed on seeing The Beatles, Cream and Jimi Hendix Experience…can’t believe I did that. I really thought Grace Slick was red hot back then.
Blimey Eldo we have a worrying amount in common, I remember being bullied by this big tall kid, it wasn’t you was it???
Selhurst Grammar?
Some great stuff coming out of the closet…..I remember the Focus Album, I bought Sparks, This town aint big enough for the both of us, got it home, played it, realised I hated it and went straight back to the shop to exchange it. Jan Ackerman, he could play a bit.

I went to Forest Hill - talking of Sparks, my driving instructor was the father of the guitarist!!! - that was at the time of This Town - must have been 1973 - its a funny old world….........
The old grey matter is causing me some problems on this one.
First gig, courtesy of my Uncle and his girlfriend, was The Beach Boys at some theatre in Coventry 1970.
First Album - well I had all the early Beatles albums bought for me as presents (indoctrination - they were the good guys after all - needless to say I went on to become a commited Stones fan later on) but as for my first purchase with my own money, probaby Every Picture Tells a Story (Rod Stewart), or A Nod’s As Good As a Wink…. To a Blind Horse (The Faces). Still rate the Faces as one of my all time favourite bands, but Rod sadly lost the plot with his solo career.
First Single - I really cant remember, but I’m sure I’ll still have it so I’ll have a root around my singles boxes for inspiration. Certainly wasn’t anything as embarassing as the Tams though…..........
Guys! Guys! I don’t believe any of this! These are nowhere near embarressing enough! I will be absolutely honest and confess my first single was Ben by Michael Jackson and my first album Atlantic Crossing by Rod Stewart. First gig a bit less humiliating as it was the Jam at the Rainbow. Maybe us girls are late developers when it comes to musical taste? Well you lot have to have the edge on something I spose.
First single: U2- New Years Day
First album: The Smurfs & Father Abraham (I agree with Amy assuming you’re not honest at all guys!)
Fist gig: Powerplay (Dutch band)
Join together the Who
Aladdin Sane David Bowie
Deep Purple Glasgow Apollo 1976
p.s Purple were breaking up at the time and had a herion addict on guitar
many years later i caught them with Steve Morse on lead
never with Ritchie, although i saw Rainbow twice.
Bit of a guess on the first 2 as i’m not 100% sure that I didn’t get something else before them:
First single - Nickelback - How You Remind Me
First Album: Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard Of Oz (First that I brought rather than was given)
First Gig - Iron Maiden at Earl Court 2005
