Haven’t seen it posted in this thread but noticed BDS has released an EP with 4 covers and a video of It’ll All Come around. The covers are: Back Door Slam (Robert Cray), Riding With the King (John Hiatt), Redhouse (Hendrix) and Been Down So Long (Doors). Like the earlier album everything is very polished and very good. All the reviews I’ve read over here go on and on about how great these guys are live. They’re definitely on my must see list the next time they come to the Midwest.

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ve put the videoranch broadcast in my calender, but it looks like I’ll be unable to see BDS before December. The only available date nearby is on a thursday and that won’t work. Do you know what their schedule is past November?

Nothing announced as yet. I think they may be starting work on a new album. Some UK dates would be nice - none of us had heard of them the last time they played on these shores!

Indy, the lastest BDS newsletter advises that the Videoranch that was planned this weekend had been postponed. The venue needs urgent improvements.

Back Door Slam appeared at the Austin City Limits Festival last weekend and have just been told they came in 3rd on the list of CD sales at the festival (despite Roll Away being over a year old).  That means they outsold artists such as Fleet Foxes, Robert Plant & Alison Kraus, the Raconteurs, Joe Bonamassa and the Black Keys! They only beaten by Vampire Weekend and MGMT. Pretty impressive!

It also does show that a pretty unknown British act playing blues rock can make success for themselves in the USA!

I’m not surprised about the success they’ve received here. A few weeks ago, before the Austin Festival, I read on a number of threads, fans’ excitement about BDS playing in Texas. Their hard work, it seems, is starting to pay off. Believe me, America is hungry for talented Blues Rockers. I don’t know why I feel this, but I don’t think Back Door Slam will continue to be so Blues heavy - I’m thinking they’ll morph into something more mainstream or maybe a whole new sound. The sky’s the limit for those boys! Thanks for the info - I’ll look into that Vampire band lol!

Indy, they are playing new songs at their gigs. They seem to still be a blues rock style. Check out this link, it includes a concert recording and some youtube vids!

Hi Lyvergal - Unable to open up the website here at work, but will later. The Arena Tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kid Rock should expand their fanbase considerably - I doubt I’d go see them cause The Kid and certainly L.S.’s best days were years ago. It’s a good move, though, for the lads. I’m not surprised they’re staying with their current sound cause it’s great music. Still got that feeling though. Thanks for the info!

Thank you all for sending BDS to the States. I’ve been lucky enough to see them 3 times now. The most recent was w/Govn Mule. Don’t fret about their style changing..won’t happen. I talked to Davy before the Kid Rock tour..told him I was worried about “bad influences”..He laughed and said “You know I’m not a rocker”...They are 3 down to Earth, humble, funny young men. With G’Mule Davy comes out to jam. It’s not always the same song. “Born Under a Bad Sign” was the choice for my show, and, WOW! I got the EP free with the purchase of a tee shirt..The version of “Red House” is stunning. They will be around for a long time IMHO...Cathy

Hi Cathy, I agree with all of your praise of Back Door Slam. From what I hear the Gov’t Mule tour is very beneficial for the band. Seeing this band live is probably my concert priority for next year and I understand UK/European dates are planned for 2009.

This band can go all the way. Without wishing to be contentious I think they could be a bigger act than John Mayer and Joe Bonamassa are now. Davy Knowles in particular is a great talent, at the age of 21 he is a good guitarist, a great vocalist and superb song writer.

While I think that Aynsley could have all of the success that Back Door Slam had received in the US to date, I am realistic enough to realise that due to his family commitments, finance etc he is unlikely to be able to devote so much time in doing so. Hopefully though he has been as inspired by their success as the rest of us.
