Interesting thread BB….seems we had one like this once upon a time. Since I could name a thousand worthy covers, I stay my hand and only mention one: “Change Is Gonna Come”, covered by Mike Farris. Originally written and performed by Sam Cooke with modest success in the mid sixties, the song has since become an anthem for civil rights in my country. The song can also be interpreted in other ways hence my attraction. The version of Mike’s that I have is a live recording (Live From Westlake Studio B) with just his voice and guitar. Formerly the lead singer of the rock band, Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies, Mike found Jesus after a close friend had died of an overdose. His solo music is gospel blues that’s done extremely well. Alot of his music are covers, but they’re all done with such care and reverence. “Change Is Gonna Come” will hit you like a sledgehammer - his voice is so soulful.
Limp Bizkit’s cover of “Behind Blue Eyes”. The original from The Who, live version from the RAH, seems somehow unready campared with the cover.
Joe’s cover of “Jockey Full of Burbon”, compared with Tom Wait’s caterwauling (sorry, I’m not a Tom Wait’s fan).
Not to forget Aynsley’s “As the crow flies”. It’s better than the original and better than all the other cover version, that of Rory included
Amen Cliff! I do not yet possess GGGOH, but will very soon.
Not just Amen Curby Hallelujah(Ilove her so) know what i mean eh matey
As I type I’m listenin’ to Mike Farris’ cover of “Folsom Prison Blues” - awesome!
I went and looked into his old band, The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies, and their music is large doses of rock blues. I think some of rockers here like Britbabe and Nige would like TSCW.
I make no appologies for goin off topic here BB ,there i was exploring an album by Toby Keith called “That dont make me a bad boy” when up pops this msg from curby re The Screamin Cheetah Wheelies,so of i shoot to i tune to check em out and Hell im downloading their live album vol 1 & 2 as i type-best £7.99 ive spent this year.im back on the rock vibe thanks again to Curby, sounds like dear ol Stevie Marriott circa Humble Pies “EAT IT” Album .CHEERS SCOTT.
love that album rockola,i commented on it when i came across it a while back and glad to hear someone else has picked up on them.my fav version of AATWT is by buddy miles.
I heard about AKB from Cliff some time back and got their version of “All Along the Watchtower”. It’s a fine effort, but no one has ever touched Jimi’s version. My favorite cover of AATW is by the group Sky High.
from the album “freedom"i presume Scott,a mighty fine rendition i must say as ive just interupted The Cheetahs to check it out on i tunes.at this rate it will be cheaper to fly over one day and spend a month or more goin thru your collection-you lead me astray ol mate.

Hi Scott - I had a look to see if there was something similar, but all I could find was covers we would like Aynsley to do.
I put the thread up as from time to time the good folk of the forum do mention covers which are really rated, so now we have a little pigeon hole to put the suggestions!!!
