In celebration of the big 8 0 0, I thought we could have another poll, and to keep it topical, let’s make it about cover versions, specificaly the ones Aynsley has done.
To make things simple I’ve excluded the ones from the early albums and Pilchards (I’ve kept As The Crow Flies at its on Everything I Need), which of these cover versions do you like the most?

Congrats on the 800 Duncan.

I’ve voted for Hush - I’ve seen Purple’s version and Aynsley knocks spots off it. Don’t get me wrong purple rain is good - but I’ve never seen prince live, so can’t compare.

Love both Purple Rain and Hush but they are both live songs and have not featured on albums, for that reason I have chose Little Wing as I think its his bet cover on record.

It was a tough call between “Purple Rain” and “Little Wing”, but I chose the latter because I think that it’s the best cover of that song.  Eldo and I got into a little debate regarding AL’s version versus Stevie Ray’s, but in MY humble opinion it’s the one I like best.  Maybe with the upcoming live album Purple will be captured on vinyl..oops, on cd I mean.  Is it true that vinyl’s making a comeback?  That’s what I’m hearing.

Crazy for me, to me Ansley really made this his own. It stands apart from the original. However I was also blown away by Purple Rain live.

Slightly annoyed with myself as I forgot to include Take Me To The River as that’s a great one too. Aynsley’s first album can sometimes be overlooked and while Since I Met You and Five Long Years are pretty straight covers, All Along The Watchtower is a song that Aynsley reinterprets in his own way making it sound quite different to the versions by Dylan and Hendrix, so it gets my vote today (tomorrow I may feel differently). So give it a listen!:)

I’ve not forgotten them, but I think you can only list 10 choices for a vote. Maybe you can start that poll!? smile

Hi Duncan

I don’t know if there’s a limit, but it’s not 10 The which equilibrium track is your favourite has 12 choices.

Hi Eldo

I would be very surprised if Purple Rain did not get the number one vote, but my own view is that due to the pace of the song (i.e. quite slow) His guitar work is better on other covers.

Yeah BB, but there is a lot of “feel” to the guitar solo parts of Purple Rain - sends shivers down the spine - we all know Aynsley can pick up the pace, when required to do so…..........

Not so easy to vote for one song.
My number 1 live song is: Purple Rain.
But Crazy could also be a number 1 live song (the thing is, I haven’t heard that song live but hopefully will in September).
And As the Crow flies is my CD number 1 song, followed by Little Wings.
How about a poll with a personal ranking of 3 songs?

Hi Ligho

We wanted to try this on other votes, but the limitation is that it only offers you vote here on the forum.

I like Hush and especially that Blues Caravan version version. Aynsley is in Fire, Sarah Jones really makes the earth move and Ian Parker does great job too. As the crow flies is also one of my fvaorites.
