LOL I share your frustration, Baz - I contacted Cath as I assumed it was the usual Guisborough r’n’b club but apparently not.  I also have had no response from either the rugby club or Mr Lister himself, I’m away from home for a while now but when I get back I’ll phone the number on the gig list and find out what the crack is.  If you get details earlier, post them here!

I’ve tried that phone number a few times but no-one has answered so I have decided to just turn up too, sounds like that was the plan in any case.  I wonder if it’s the same guy organising this who used to do the Middlesbro gigs?  I had thought, since it was in the same venue, that it must be a Guisborough r’n’b gig but as we know, that’s not the case.  Ah well, if anything goes awry BaznPat, we’ll just have a bevy and talk about your hometown, where I spent my early teenage years and which made me the woman I am!!!  See you on the 3rd, come say hi - the band will tell you who I am. cool smile

You have to phone after 7Pm as that is when the club opens. But the info that I put up is all you will get back from him. So do not turn up before 7 as you will be standing in the cold. But the guy has assured me that the bar will be open at 7 for drinks before the gig.

Of course, if the information on the site and on myspace was correctly given as ‘Guisborough Football Club’ and not ‘Rugby Club’, that would help.

It seems there are a lot of negative comments about the Aynsley gig at Guisborough football club.Having been a member of the R&B club since the onset and a regular visitor to the club i find this quite disturbing. After almost 7 years both club and festival are well supported well organised and well run with people coming from far and wide to both the monthly gigs and also the annual festival which has always been a sell out - and long may they continue to do so. This event was not organised by the R&B club and the wonderful team of Kath and Ralph and as i was not there and can only go by heresay it was indeed organised by someone who did in fact put bands on in Boro some years back. As an avid blues club supporter I was surprised to find a blues artist on a night other than the club nights and the club on nights other is usually known for backing singers etc and different kinds of music altogether.
The staff are friendly and helpful - the venue is always adequately heated - there is ample seating and two bars - we real blues fans who attend most of the festivals and many gigs all over UK and indeed even overseas have never had anything to complain about- they are still supporting the club 7 years later. Those of us who have been there at the onset know how much work goes into the organisation planning of a club and how truely dedicated you have to be to do it. So come on you people out there give it a try on the TRUE BLUES night - we are a really friendly bunch of people and you wont be disappointed by the event.
As an afterthought - bars and brewery suppliers are obviousley the responsibility of the football club - and i dont drink beer so dont know. However as the club has been supported so long and by so many football players and fans and regulars as well as blues fans who were there from day 1 then perhaps some people need to look at their priorities.
Long live the Blues

What is wrong with you people. Nobody is knocking the r&b club or the people that promote it..Right… The thread was..WHAT A DUMP..COLD.. UNHEATED.. DRAB UNCOMFORTABLE..IN NEED OF REFUBISHMENT..That was the thread. The band were great but not the venue.. STALAG 13.. Springs to mind. If you want to check out a GREAT blues club.. Check out THE RIPLEY BLUES CLUB. Ainsley has played there before what a clean.. pleasant..warm..WELL lit..real ale venue. Not to be confused with THE GUSIBOROUGH SHED.

Thank you very much for your kind and most welcome comments Bluesfan - we try and ensure everyone is given a warm welcome but unfortunately cannot serve real ale due to the terms and conditions imposed by the brewery. It is only open on an evening apart from weekends when football is played too of course but maybe next time the phone number advertised will be Tom’s number so fans can speak to the person who sorts out timings, tickets etc etc.
