James Townend on bass last night.  Did a terrific job at 2 days notice of the gig.

That’ll be the 4 years of being in the band showing LOL - guess it’s like swimming, or riding a bike!  Good gig?

Excellent gig, though a disappointing audience turnout.

Yeah, so I saw on the other thread, N J’s Dog.  What a pity, still it’s not the first time it’s happened, hopefully next time they play there word will have got out and folks will know what they’d be missing.  I’m hoping for good things on Tuesday and I’m so excited I’m having trouble sleeping - The Cask and I go a loooooooong way back LMAO! I might even have to buy a new camera . . .

An issue many years ago of Guitarist magazine that had Little Wing on the CD and a series of lessons over several issues written by Aynsley. Still trying to get him to come to Canada.

Was lounging about at home early on a Saturday evening, think it was about four years ago now. It was after Alex had left but before Sarah joined. Know doubt someone will be able to pin the time down better than me. Anyway I digress. Was stuck for something to do so,I had look at The Brook web site in Southampton to see who was playing that night. It was Aynsley and the band. I must confess had never heard of him, but the pre gig info they gave and with nothing better to do thought I would give it a try. Well he was superb absolutely blew me away and have been a fan ever since.
Have seen four different drummers. The guy who played that first night, cannot remember his name but I think he was ex Kula Shaker, Sarah, Alex ( who filled in for Sarah at one gig ) and of course Spoons and two bass player’s, James and Jo. I have seen the full band eight times, the last being Blues on the Farm down near Chichester. and twice solo most recently at The Bear in Devizes.
I am sorry to hear Jo is leaving but I think Midus sounds a damned good replacement and cannot wait to catch the new line up in Portsmouth in early December.

Nice to meet you Paul, and hear your story.  The drummer’s name you’re after is Paul Winter-Hart and yes, he’s with Kula Shaker who are (or have been recently) on the road again.  Last I heard of Alex he was drumming on tour for Radiohead surprised , more power to him!  Sarah also has done big things with New Young Pony Club, wonder how Mr Lister feels about his drummers leaving him for the big time - Miley Cyrus ahoy for Rich???? LMAO!!  I agree entirely with your sentiments about Midus joining the group, I get the feeling she’s going to be great.

Hi all,

This is my first ever post but i am no stranger to Aynsley Lister!

I first saw Aynsley when he was promoting his first release on Ruf (Aynsley Lister) around 1999 and still to this day love the man! A friend of mine saw him play down in Portsmouth so i went to HMV and paid something like £16 for his album! But im glad i did as i was hooked from the first riff of ‘got it bad’!

I have been to every gig of his at The Brook in southampton and have been lucky on a number of times to see him play with Ian Parker on a few double bills. From all his band changes of Wayne on the drums then Alex then Sarah now spoons, its all been a cool ride.

Aynsley is a very down to earth guy and is always up for a chat before/after his gigs. As a serious blues guitarist myself its always good gettin hints and tips from the man himself!

So, there it is, im sure i will be posting alot more messages in the future!

Ben

(P.S - Anysley, are you EVER going to come back down the brook again!? Its been forever!!)

Nice to meet you Ben, I’ve been promising myself that the next time Aynsley plays The Brook I’ll go, as it’s his favourite venue in the UK apparently.  Still waiting!

Hey Britbabe!

I see you are the number one on this board. Nice to meet you ;0) (i always hear you are a KWS fan?)

Its his favourite? Really? I never knew that. Yea, its been SUCH a long time. Ian Parker played down there not long ago so not sure as to why Aynsley hasn’t. Have you ever been to The Brook? Its such a wicked venue. I saw Keb Mo’ down there a couple of months back and that was awsome!!

Hi Ben - No1?? Not me lol, I just talk too much (ask Aynsley LOL ).  I haven’t been to The Brook yet no, but in this topsy turvy world it’d be easier and probably cheaper to fly there than to drive to see him in Sheffield!  As far as I’m aware, Aynsley no longer books his gigs so I guess it would be his manager we’d have to contact to ask for venues.  There were hints of a lot of touring next year when I saw him on Friday, hopefully we’ll get all the places we want. Yes I am a huge KWS fan, except it’s hard to keep the enthusiasm going when he puts out no work and will never tour over here.  One of these days I’ll try get myself across the ocean again and see him.

lol talkin to much about Aynsley aint a bad thing. Well i’ll just keep my fingers crossed that he will be back down here sooner rather than later (im having withdrawel symptons)lol.

I know what you mean about KWS. His lastest album in my mind sucked cause its all ‘blue grass blues’. I prefer the rock KWS - in2deep, slow ride, alive etc. Im hopin a new album will be at least in the works at the moment.
Thats the problem with musicans like him, they never come to the UK/Europe. I guess its because they think they will never sell the tickets and it won’t be cost effective. It is really annoying as there are some people i would love to come to the UK. Such as KWS and Jonny Lang (amazing singer). I guess they never will unless they become ‘more famous’ world wide.

Shame really :0(

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum. Hope you keep posting at this rate, then you’ll be number one smile I hope you get a gig in Sheffield sometime soon!

I find this comment interesting Britbabe

As far as I’m aware, Aynsley no longer books his gigs so I guess it would be his manager we’d have to contact to ask for venues.

There does not seem any particular logic to Aynsley’s touring at the moment, consider these four dates:

14th November, 2008 UK Newcastle
17th November, 2008 UK Oxford
21st November, 2008 UK Aylesbury
23rd November, 2008 UK Carlisle

It’s here, there and everywhere - like someone has just drawn lines across England! I think it would have made more sence to play the Newcastle gig, then stay in the north of the UK for the week before Carlisle. Here in Scotland we’ve had 30 minutes of Aynsley this year and that is only thanks to Robin Trower’s management!

So I welcome the news of heavier touring next year, and hope the dates cover a wider geographical area, both within and outwith the UK.

The Trower tour and the song on Classic Rock magazine’s CD seem to have been two important ways for people to have heard of Aynsley. Hope management can get one of the songs from Aynsley’s new album on a CD by Classic Rock or Mojo magazine. A high profile support slot would also be good for raising his profile…
