This forum is pretty much dead and I though it would be neat to have some more action going on here.
So here we go: Where and when (and why) did you Aynsley Lister the first time?

I’m playing the lead guitar in a band with some friends and when my friend Josef and me had a pause from writing songs he showed me some CD’s packed with live gigs of various Artist like Hendrix, SRV, Clapton and so on. There also was a video of “Everything I need” on it and he showed to me. I really fell in love with this song and we’re gonna play it the next time we do a gig.

Hi there - I’ll have a piece of this!

Just over 6 years ago hubby and I purchased our first cd player and bought ourselves a Classic Rock magazine because it had a free cd and we had nothing to play on our new toy.  In this mag was an interview with and a review of the latest album by - Kenny Wayne Shepherd.  We bought the album, loved it and subsequently I became familiar with the phenomenon that is the MESSAGE BOARD.  On his forum the only other English poster recommended this young lad called Aynsley Lister, and the thread received some very positive responses.  I thought that if the folks who loved KWS like I did also liked this guy, he might be up my alley too.  It just so happened Aynsley was playing in Ripley N Yorks on a night when we’d already arranged for our kids to stay over at my brothers - so we went to check out the band.  The rest, as they say, is history.  I was smitten from the very first chord and last night saw my fave band in the same venue, almost exactly 6 years to the day since that night.  Band members have come and gone but still THE MAN remains and he moves me just as much now as he did that first time - who says love at first sight (or hearing!) doesn’t last?!

Next . .
LOL

PS - I’d be fascinated to know where your friend got that video!!

Greetings from the USA,

I found Aynsley quite by mistake, I am a blues fan from way back, and I love the guitar, trying to learn how to play but that is tough at 51!

A buddy of mine and I were discussing the Hendrix tune “Little Wing”, and I decided to search Itunes for all the artists who have done that song, I saw this guy Aynsley Lister, clicked on it, and was amazed at how beautiful he made that tune!! I now have almost everything he has done or that I could find, now I am trying to catch him here in the states someday!

Hi there everyone,

really cool topic...I first started to listen to this kind of music as a friend of mine played this absolutely sensational song “Lie to me” by Jonny Lang while we were driving in his car...on the next day I went straight into the next record store to buy this album… this was in 1997. Since that time I have been contagioned by the blues virus...in 2001 Aynsley Listers records I found purely by chance while I was fossicking around for new cool music at my local record store…I saw this sepia-toned cover of Aynsleys second record (RUF), put the album into the CD-player and it blew me away…after this I looked for some gig dates and was lucky reading that he toured Germany at that time…it was just before Christmas and because it was the last german gig for this year at the Pumpwerk in Wilhelmshaven my crazy friend and my little humble self went about 600 km by train to see him playing live…okay we were students…we had the time…but the money smile who cares?? We had a great time and it has really been worth it…unfortunately there were only a few people because all the others were busy because of christmas I think…but they will never know what they missed…

…so that’s my story…what’s yours??

P.S. Hi Britbabe, just noticed that you listen to Kenny Wayne Shepherd...what do think of his latest release “10 days out”?

Greetings from Germany you lovely people!! cheese

Hi Susi I’m glad you caught Aynsley in Germany, I’ve been to Berlin and Stuttgart to see him and also Holland for the last ever Blues Caravan gig - next year I’m hoping to go to Muhle Hunziken in Rubigen, Switzerland as he says it’s his favourite venue and it sounds like an awesome place to play.  I haven’t heard any of Kenny’s new cd yet for the simple reason that I am not what you’d call a ‘blues fan’ - shock, horror!  I’m a rock fan who likes blues based rock music and bluesrock.  No doubt we’ll get around to Kenny’s new project in due course but I’m more into the likes of ‘In 2 Deep’, ‘Nevermind’ and ‘Was’ of his.  One of these days I’ll see the guy live, it’s my mission!!

I first saw Aynsley at the Wedgewood rooms in Portsmouth supporting Walter Trout (early 1999 I think)and I managed to buy his two unreleased albums at the gig and have been hooked ever since. He was supurb and came back on and did a number with Walter. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen him since but try to see him whenever he is down on the south coast.

Hi eyeryone!

I met a nice girl during a Bernard Allison concert in 2004. We chat about music and she told me about AL. Then I saw Aynsley in the german TV. Late in the evening there were parts of the rockpalast concert. Since this show, I am a real fan. I own all CDs and DVDs, I saw AL three times with his band, two times with the BC2006 and a few weeks ago the Double Vision show in Bochum/Germany.

Aynsley is now in my personal top 10. I try to see a show at every Tour through Germany. He’s an amazing player and singer and such a smart person.

Best wishes from Germany,
Hein

I heard of Aynsley thanks to an fan of Joe Bonamassa. We traded some live shows and I got my first live Lister from him. I have been hooked ever since. Have all his CDs and DVDs and can’t wait until he tours on the West Coast in the USA. I hope that will happen in 2008. I can’t make the date in the Omaha area this year.

I live in Leicester, (Aynsleys home city I beleive), but hadnt heard of him until i saw an ad in the gig guide of the local paper. He was due to play solo at The Musician in Leicester in June last year. The write up was good, and though i wouldnt have called myself a blues fan i love guitar so decided to miss out on watching a world cup match and pop down to see what it was all about!
Im so glad i did, because i, along with a small audience, witnessed the most amazing solo guitar performance i have ever seen.
I ve since been to see him with band, also brilliant, but prefer him solo. I just love the guitar technique, playing bass and lead together and foot tapping on a box. Travelled to see him solo at sheffield and chester this year. He was amazing, but the atmosphere for me at that Leicester gig will take some beating. He played a really moody version of Empire State Express which i will never forget. He has played it differently each time I ve seen him. Cant describe properly what i mean, but it was moodier, a bit slower, and he threw a lot more little lead licks in than on his live solo cd. Does anyone else know what i mean?
