Glad to see a few of you are enjoying my mates photo’s of ALB from the Half Moon gig, good aren’t they.
With a bit of luck he wll do some more at the Westcliff (Riga Bar) gig in Sept which we’re looking forward to.

The last one, Slow Gin is a good place to start!! that’s the one they most play on planet rock. There’s a great cover of Paul Rogers’ Seagull on it as well.
Enjoy!!

Sloe Gin is part electric part acoustic, and showcases the more mellow side of Joe. Many would say its his best.

The other ones I’d suggest would be You & Me (his second last one) which was the first to feature his new band and producer.
Blues Deluxe is a good starting place if you are looking for firey cover versions. if you can wait, he is releasing a live album soon which is now on preorder.

My favorite is So, It’s Like That. It’s his most rockin’ album. Blues Deluxe is his blues album and quite good, but what I’d get to start for Joe is his DVD at Rockpalast—very, very impressive! JB at the height of his skills.

start at the beginning and work your way through the back catalogue - early stuff is raw and more bluesy - the later stuff gets more mainstream as Joe begins to get more commercial and chase the dollar - the Rockpalast dvd is great too so you could start with that - you can get most of this stuff on amazon or ebay for about a fiver, so get crackin’!!

Hey Robster

If you’re going to order from Amazon, you should get this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Nowhere-Particular-Joe-Bonamassa/dp/B001BKVX3G/ref=cm_cr-mr-title

Its Joe’s live album, Live From Nowhere In Particular which is released on Monday 28th July. That’s a good price for a new double CD set which is sure to rise after the release date. The CD has got songs from all Joe’s albums but one (Had To Cry Today). I agree with the guys though and you should add the Rockpalast DVD to your order too. Get back to us and tell us what you got!

Thanks Greenose for the new live cd info. I thought you were refering to the Shepherds Bush live recording in your earlier post. Yeah, Rockpalast was a great show but his bassist and drummer are no longer with him and it might be painful listening to their replacements.

You should try it out, Joe doesn’t work with bad musicians! Bass parts may not be quite so filled with the new guy though. I’ve made my order (£8.98).

Greenose - It’s August 17, did you get JB’s new live album? If you did, how was it compared to the other live stuff. It’s being released this week here and I await your critique. I sampled a little of it on his website and it seemed less polished than prior recordings.

Hi Scott, sorry I still have not heard the album yet, there appears to be a backlog at Amazon and I have still not received it yet. Grrr.

Sorry I never got back on this topic. Yes my copy of Joe’s Live From Nowhere arrived last week. Had a few listens to it, and I really like it. I am starting out from a perspective as a big Joe fan so I could not be really objectionable about it, but the sound on it is superb. For one you can hear the keyboardist Rick Merrick well in the mix, but not to the detriment of any other instruments. Joe’s guitar work is as always very impressive and to my ears it sounds a little more fluid than the studio albums, while I think the songs selected highlight the best of Joe’s vocals. On songs such as If Heart Aches Were Nickels and Sloe Gin you can hear that he has matured to be a great singer. It’s also good to hear how some songs have developed, the aforementioned Nickels is a slow ballad whilst High Water is Everywhere has a more organic acoustic feel. There have been suggestions the crowd noise is not high enough, but where it needs to be heard, for example the singalong part of Walk In My Shadow and the chearing at the end of songs can be heard clearly. There is no annoying hollering during quiet parts that you would find in a bootleg. I suppose its hard to please everyone with the tracking listing, personally I’d rather have heard either The River and/or Burning Hell rather than A New Day Yesterday/Starship Trooper/Wurm and possibly one more rocky song. However as a collection of songs it is hard to beat from probably the top man in his genre of music.
Thankfully both play.com and amazon uk are now both showing the CD as being in stock. Delays meant I got mine late. However it was certainly worth it!
PS Robster, have your bought some Joe B yet?
