Good shout Rockola, the album is excellent. There is a variety of tunes from Rory Gallagher style rockers such as Come Home to slow acoustic folk numbers such as Stay and the title track. The band are from the Isle of Man, but have been spending much of their time touring the USA. Hopefully they can do some gigs back here in the UK sometime.

Hi Greenose...I love the album...the title track is brilliant..I thought they were from the Isle of Man...I’ll put them on my alerts on the ENTS24 website!...I’ve ben getting into a few bands I hadn’t previously listened to or heard of...another good blues/rock band is the Blindside Blues Band and another great guitarist is Sean Chambers, although he hasn’t got plans to tour over here, as he hasn’t got a UK agent...I actually saw Aynsley last Friday (9the May) in Exeter..he was support for Robin Trower, but I could’ve listened to Aynsley all night!...Trower was quite boring really..same old, same old....hope to see Aynsley on tour later this year in his own right..

Hi Rockola
I’d love to see Back Door Slam and while I think they are keen to tour the UK, they are concentrating on the US at the moment and have got some big gigs coming up such as BONNAROO, AUSTIN CITY LIMITS, playing at Buddy Guy’s Legends and supporting Joe Bonamassa so I’m wondering when they’ll find the time for us! I’d definately recommend Roll Away to all Aynsley Fans. I saw Ayns and the band on Friday in Glasgow, and I’ve posted a review under this tab - http://www.aynsleylister.co.uk/forums/viewthread/59 (And so it begins) - like you I hope to see them play a longer set later in the year!

Back Door Slam have just returned to the US to do more touring there, so we may have to wait a while. I did read that guitarist/singer Davy Knowles was bowled over by a recent phone call he got from Gerry McAvoy who was Rory Gallagher’s bass player. Davy is a massive fan of Rory (as am I!).
Popa Chubby played in Glasgow the day before Aynsley, and therefore I had to chose Ayns!
Had a listen to the Blindside Blues Band, a song called Electic Woman - the intro sounded quite Hendrixian, but I’m sorry to say the vocals put me off (too heavy metal for my taste these days). Incidently I hear they are heavily influenced by Robin Trower…

Hi greenose...you should’ve smashed yer piggy bank and gone to see popa Chubby mate....a friend of mine saw them in Glasgow and said they were brilliant..sadly they didn’t come down here...not many bands do...I like Blindside Blues....a bit of a throwback to the seventies Heavy blues/rock....a couple ofn the album sound Trowerish..but generally they’ve got more balls than him...it’s like when I saw Trower...I kept thinking.."FFS....smack that geetar!”....another good blyues player I do like is Chris Duarte…

If you like Chris Duarte and Aynsley you’d probably also like Scott McKeon. He’s a 21 year old guitarist from the south coast. His music is influenced bu Duarte, SRV and the Hoax, among others.

He’s appearing at the Hard Rock Calling with Eric Clapton, John Mayer and Sheryl Crowe and also supporting Watermelon Slim on his UK tour in July. I’m wondering if I can justify a trip down to Newcastle on a Sunday night to see them both.

Check out Scott’s website at:

Matt Schofield is another great player - if you like Robben Ford, you’ll like Schofield - the live album is great - you can get it on amazon - or check him out on youtube - we saw Popa Chubby last week - he was Premiership class - had another great newish blues player supporting - Jay Tamkin and the Crackers - from Devon - they were fantastic too - also check out the Pete Feenstra website - he gets some great blues players over to play at the clubs he promotes - Chubby was one he had over here last week

Hi Eldo...I got Matt Schofield’s album ‘Ear To The Ground’, which I’m listening to at this very moment..good album...I’ll tell you who suprised me when I saw ‘em live was Steven Segal and Thunderbox...they were excellent...I thought Segal would big himself up, but he didn’t..he connected well with the crowd...some thug no nos were there, but they soon left when they realised it was a blues show and not a martial arts exibition…

I also have Ear To The Ground, Matt is a very talented and versatile guitarist and I’m looking forward to seeing him later in the year. He also plays on Ian Siegal’s album Swagger which I would also highly recommend. While you could say it is a more traditional type of blues sound than say Aynsley, the quality of Ian Siegal’s song writing is excellent. Incently Swagger was voted album of the year by the readers of Blues Matters magazine last year.
I’m not familiar of the work of his (almost) namesake Steven, but its good to see by playing the blues he is doing something he loves!
Another artist I’d suggest you check out is Oli Brown. His debut album Open Road is now available on his website and is available elsewhere from Monday 9th June.

yeah - seen Oli Brown a few times as support at Feenstra gigs - great for his age - Aynsley is more of a rocker these days than a bluesman - seems to have dumped the Soundman, Disorderley Me type blues, which I really like, but I still like his stuff - perhaps he was fed up with the Kenny Wayne Shepherd soundalike comments - or he is going to chase the american dollar - best of luck to him, he deserves success - I think thats the way KWS and Bonamassa have gone - I prefer the more bluesy numbers than the melodic rockers - but each to their own - and maybe Aynsley needs to get writing some more material - good job its not the early 70’s when bands used to release an album every 6 months!!! Another good blues/rocker to listen to is Stoney Curtis - he’s over here in a couple of weeks time

I just ordered a Stoney Curtis album ‘Raw and Real’ off Amazon...I liked the samples, so I bought it, along with another album by Indigenous a North American Indian Band who are great..I would recommend their debut album if you love yer blues...great voice and great geetar!....I hope Stoney Curtis comes this way, but I won’t hold my breath..the local venues down here want to book trib bands all the time..also bought another Chris Duarte album ‘Texas Sugar/Strat Magik, which was recommended to me....the first album I got of his was Tailspin headwhack, another great album!...must ceck out that J tamkin and the Crackers...surely they must play down here if they come from here...hopefully!.
BTW...I would recommend Steven Segals’ Mojo Priest’ album to anyone..it’s a great delta blues album…

Yeah - the Stoney Curtis album Acid Blues Experience is well worth getting too - I’ve got the first Indigenous album, but I think the production lets it down, unless its just my copy - the sound is very fuzzy - great tracks though - also got a couple of Chris Duarte albums - we were at the gig he played recently in London - see vids on youtube by tripsybon - check out the Jay Tamkin website - its got samples and gig list etc - I guess he must play mostly in Devon - also check out Eric Gales - great rock/blues albums - look him up on youtube - I recently bought his whole back catalogue on amazon!!
