Hello,

the first time I listened to Aynsley was when he played with the Blues Caravan.
Yesterday I was in Hamburg to hear Aynsley and his Band again.

But, I’m dissatisfied.
Aynsley was very good - it was fun. Jo Nichols on the bass was good too.
But Rich Spooner wasn’t.
He only played all the time with the same hard style on his drums - without sensitiveness.
No matter if there was a quiet part in a song the song itself was a quiet one.

With his way to play drums he puts Aynsleys music down.

So I wasn’t able to enjoy the show yesterday.
My girlfriend plays drums since 10 years and she has the same opinion about that.

Sarah was much better, I think.

Now I want to hear your opinion.
I’m curious about it.

Greets,
Ynot

hmmm....

I visited Aynsleys Concert at Freudenburg and I can`t say that I was dissatisfied.
Maybe because at this concert there was nearly no “slow” part....?

no, the concert was really rocking and I and my friend we enjoyed every band-members
performance.

I would agree that the drummer was - IN A POSITIVE WAY - abolutely CRAZY !

greetings. Thomas.

I think Rich is a great Drummer , wish he was in my Band.

Its only a 3 piece so a bit of ground needs covering , there is no doubt that Rich hits those drums hard , but for the better in my opinion.

Could have been mixed to loud through the PA.The times Ive seen them I try to get up close so I can get the stage sound of which the drumming the is slick , of perfect timeing & with a solid firm driving beat.

Spot on !  tongue wink

Anyway its all personal taste , I used to work with a drummer who I always had to ask to hit the skins harder !......ever heard that before !?

Yeah, I agree this chap is rubbish! Bring back Sarah!

Only kidding.... we love him unquestioningly because he is our local superstar of the skins.

Seriously, I wonder if this is all because Aynsley wants to move forward? This is inevitable and I am not sure I like it but I recognise the problems of standing still in music. AL is enigmatic. He is cute and talented but chose blues which is infamous for never giving you superstar status (unless you are BB King, who I don’t like much). But I detect in his songs some disappointment and frustration. Like so many of his ilk he has created a loyal fanbase but it is always going to struggle to emerge from that.

The only recent exception I can think of is Joe Bonamassa. But even he is going to be struggling to reach even a whiff of the adulation that the likes of Clapton accrue (justified or otherwise).

BTW anyone know if Sarah is in another band?

Any reader who is puzzled by this discourse should check out the Live at The Rockpalast DVD. We look forward to the new DVD with Spoony on it so we can compare and contrast.

I’m with the majority!
Rich is an excellent drummer!!
I wish I could play like that!!

And, yes Sarah is in another band...New Young Pony Club. Very very different to Aynsley. They have been very successful. Not my cup of tea but good nevertheless.

See Darling, ya didn’t need my help did ya? LOL.

My opinion - Aynsley has always had fabulous drummers and Rich is no exception.  Power, passion and plenty of subtlety too when required.  I’m sorry that you don’t share that opinion but each to his own I guess.

Personally I still burst into tears whenever I hear Badly Drawn Boy in the supermarket or in adverts on the tv because I miss Alex every single day - but that doesn’t mean I don’t also think Rich is fantastic and love his contribution to Aynsley’s evolving sound.  If everything stayed the same all the time where would new joys be found?
