Things are still a little quiet on the site so I thought I’d throw this out. Obviously there’ll be a Blues slant to the list but don’t forget the greats of other styles of music. I’ll reveal my full list later but for now I’ll just give Joe Bonamassa as a member of my five.

Following on from the general cover versions conversation, I thought it might be interesting to think of songs that we would like to hear Aynsley play in the future. This is meant to be lighthearted and not to influence or pressure Aynsley in anyway, although hopefully he may also find it of interest.

Well I guess I should suggest one to start with…

How about a cover of another great British blues singer Peter Green? Therefore I’d suggest Fool No More by Fleetwood Mac.

Britbabe, will you be suggesting Red House by Jimi Hendrix?

Welcome to the new members on the board! Here’s a post you might like to get involved in. What is everyone’s favourite Aynsley Lister songs so far? Do you like the blues songs, the rock songs or the slow songs most? Here are some of mine:

Need Her So Bad - this is an early one which helped Aynsley get a record deal and is found on the Aynsley Lister album. This is a slow song about love and desire, I love the guitar tone on this song, slightly reminiscent of Peter Green.

Identity Blues - I love it when Aynsley plays slide and this is a great early example found on the first album and as a hidden track on Everything I Need.

As The Crow Flies - Aynsley truly makes this song his own, nothing short of superb!

What U Got 4 Me - This is a rocky song from the All Or Nothing album. Aynsley with some attitude and great guitar work as ever, the best from a good album.

Wherever I Am - This is one of Aynsley’s more commercial tracks, some I like more than others, but this one can take the breath away, a great track which is a slow builder starting only with bass and cymbals.

With Me Tonight - This track is probably everthing you’d want in a song from Aynsley. Heavily bluesy with a contempary feel, its a passionate song that slows right down before starting up again.

Find My Way Home - Another rocker, this is the first song on Upside down, and played at a frantic pace, one the best British blues rock songs made since the Hoax were last together!

I’m keen to hear yours (descriptions not necessary!)

This forum is pretty much dead and I though it would be neat to have some more action going on here.
So here we go: Where and when (and why) did you Aynsley Lister the first time?

I’m playing the lead guitar in a band with some friends and when my friend Josef and me had a pause from writing songs he showed me some CD’s packed with live gigs of various Artist like Hendrix, SRV, Clapton and so on. There also was a video of “Everything I need” on it and he showed to me. I really fell in love with this song and we’re gonna play it the next time we do a gig.

What’s your top 5 cover songs that in your mind were better than the originals? An example would be Purple Rain by Aynsley over Prince’s version. Everybody from the Beatles to Fall Down Boy have done them but I’m looking for the ones you all thought were an improvement.

Just read this as a bulletin on Aynsley’s myspace:

Midus Guerreiro~Bass Guitar will replace Jo Nicholls in the Aynsley Lister Band from October 20th

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, based in the UK and living in London, Midus gives herself to any musical style while maintaining her own identity & character as a bass player. As part of a band or independent session work, her rock-solid groove & extensive experience of International Tours, Studio Recordings & Television Promo has led to her to play all over the world...from 5 people in a sweaty rock club to a screaming Stadium crowd with artists like Melanie C, Kym Marsh, Hugh Cornwell, Anne Clark and Brian Ferry. Midus began playing bass and formed her first band at the age of 12.

Check her news on:

At Greenose’s recommendation, I sampled Ryan McGarvey’s album, Forward in Reverse, last week and very much liked what I heard. Received the cd yesterday and it’s even better than I first thought - Blues with a heavy dose of Rock. Ryan’s playing ability on a scale of ten would be somewhere in the 9ish range. I think I’d rate this record just under Back Door Slam’s fine effort. Best tracks are: Mystic Dream, Cryin’ Over You and Right In All the Wrong Places. Actually all the songs are good (no filler) and I see alot of JB, Billy Gibbons, SRV and KWS influences. The song Texas Special sounds like Stevie reincarnated.

Hello. Don’t know where to write, so i decided to post here. My question is… i got a CD of Everything I need and find some problems with songs. Actually with song number 10 Little Wing. When I it plays, a can hear a wheeze and noise that is coming from the guitar. At first i thought it is from my headphones (beyerdynamics dt 990 pro), but then i changed them to more cheaper phillips sbc hp 830 nothing has changed. The clicks can be listen at about 14 seconds from the begining of the song. The disc is made by Ruf Records. So, I would like to know, whoose fault is this? The disc, the recording company or the hardware the song was recodring?

Aynsley has his first live dates in a while this weekend. Saturday he is at the Napton Music Festival 14th September folowed by a solo date at Southend-on-sea @ Club Riga. Anyone here going?

It would be nice to hear if Aynsley has any news on whether he has made any recordings for a new album during the summer. Please ask if you are there.

I had heard that was the plan, but there has been no new blogs or contributions from his band here in a long time.
